The problems of modern society are becoming more complex, and it seems as if we are becoming increasingly distant from one another. How does the countryman relate to his fellow man? Can we learn anything from the wisdom of life in old rural lands? In The Rural Institute, led by Johanna ter Steege, we had a no-nonsense conversation about the Dutch phenomenon of ‘noaberschap’ (social cohesion in the countryside) and charity in one of the cosiest farms in Twente.
