The 2016-2017 soccer season was a glittering one for Dirk Kuyt. He shot his club Feyenoord to its first championship title in 18 years with a hat trick on the last day of the league. But the road to that golden day, Sunday 14 May, was not an easy one. He lost his starting position and ended up on the bench, to his great disappointment.
During these turbulent times, Kuyt and his family were closely followed by documentary maker Deborah van Dam. She filmed him during matches, including the hours on the reserve bench. She also followed him at home, with his wife Gertrude and his children, and travelled with him to his old club Liverpool.
KUYT won the Golden Paladin Award for best football film in 2018
